Fall Into Reading 2012 Wrap Up

On September 22nd I started my first reading challenge, Fall Into Reading 2012 hosted by Callapidder Day's. When I wrote my first post I got really enthusiastic about the amount of books I wanted to read (36 in total!). My goal was to lower my TBR pile with this challenge. If you only look at the list I wouldn't have completed this reading challenge! But I did read some of the books that were on my TBR pile for ages and that's what this challenge was really about for me.

So, looking back on the challenge I should have been more realistic with the list of books I made. I even put some books there I didn't even own (and some of them I still haven't bought). But I'm happy that through this challenge I've read some books I probably wouldn't have otherwise!
Participating in this challenge made me enthusiastic for more.

The books I read of the original list! I made some updates in the meantime, but I kept changing the list, so I decided to stay with the original one for the last post. I did lower my TBR pile, so I guess I reached my goal!

Fall Into Reading Challenge Update 2

On Septembe 22nd I started my first reading challenge: Fall Into Reading 2012 hosted by Callapidder Days! I love this challenge, but next time I'm setting different goals, because the one I have now isn't that effective for me. I just keep reading other books that weren't on the original list. I already updated my list once and it will change a couple more times I think. Looking at my TBR pile I woulnd't say it's any lower at the moment.
The updated list (you can find my original list here):

When I started this challenge I was really enthusiastic! And I still am, but also a bit more realistic. Reading 36 books in three months is possible, but really hard. I've read 18 books so far. Which is pretty good for me, considering I had a major reading slump. But that means I still have 18 to go in less than a month and since I also found a job again I'm not going to make that. So I decided to make a to-read list for the upcoming month of 10 books.

  1. Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl [currently reading]
  2. A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness
  3. Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout
  4. Unspoken by Sarah Rees Brennan
  5. Wolfsbane by Andrea Cremer
  6. Hourglass by Myra McEntire
  7. Abandon by Meg Cabot
  8. Easy by Tammara Webber
  9. Paranormalcy by Kiersten White
  10. Defiance by C.J. Redwine
  11. Immortal City by Scott Speer [September 25th]
  12. Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi [October 1st]
  13. Dearly, Beloved by Lia Habel [October 9th]
  14. BZRK by Michael Grant [October 15th]
  15. Inside Out by Maria V. Snyder [October 19th]
  16. The Violet Fox by Clare C. Marshall [October 20th]
  17. Broken by A.E. Rought [October 21st]
  18. Tempest by Julie Cross [October 26th]
  19. Hunting Lila by Sarah Alderson [October 27th]
  20. Cinder by Marissa Meyer [October 28th]
  21. De Socialite en de City by Tinsley Mortimer [October 30th]

  25. Hex Hall by Rachel Hawkins [November 10th]
  26. Dualed by Elsie Chapman [November 14th]

Fall Into Reading Question: WHO?

Fall Into Reading Challenge 2012 is hosted by Katrina from Callapidars Days. We're now something over a month into the challenge, so we have still two months to go! Once in a while Katrina will post a question to keep us busy next to reading all the books on our lists! You can find my list here

The first question is:

Is there an author (or authors) whose books you are always watching for? Do you jump to snatch up the latest literary offering from certain specific authors? In other words, who are your go-to authors?

My list of authors I love is pretty long, but I'm pretty picky when it comes to books. I always read the synopsis. If it doesn't sound like something I would like I'm not sure if I'll read it. There are so many amazing books out there, you can't read everything (unfortunately!!!).

After reading Twilight and Stephenie Meyer published The Host I was really hesitant about reading it, although I loved Twilight. A friend of mine recommended it to me and I read and loved it. But I also have the experience the other way around. After reading the first books of the Fallen series by Lauren Kate I wanted to read anything by her. So I read The Betrayal of Natalie Hargrove and it was a big disappoint. After that I decided to be more picky in the future and I still am.

I decided to make two lists:

Authors I've read multiple books/series by (and loved them):

  • Mary Hoffman
  • Stephenie Meyer
  • L.J. Smith
  • Lindsey Kelk
  • Lauren Conrad
  • Sophie Kinsella
  • Alyson Noël
  • Ann Brashares

Authors I want to read more from:
  • Brigid Kemmerer
  • Joss Stirling
  • Ruth Warburton
  • Amy Kathleen Ryan
  • Katie McGarry
  • Sarah J. Maas

So who are your go-to authors?

Fall Into Reading Challenge Update

Three weeks ago I started my first reading challenge: Fall Into Reading 2012 hosted by Callapidder Days. With something over two months to go I thought it was time for an update.

If you visit my blog more often you probably know I had a reading slump the past couple of weeks. So my overly ambitious plan to read 36 books isn't going to work anymore. So, I had to update my reading list. My goal is still the same: to lower my (ever-growing) TBR pile.
The updated list: (you can find my original list here)
  1. Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout
  2. Easy by Tammara Webber
  3. Cinder by Marissa Meyer
  4. Paranormalcy by Kiersten White
  5. Tempest by Julie Cross
  6. Spark by Amy Kathleen Ryan
  7. Abandon by Meg Cabot
  8. A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness
  9. Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl
  10. Bitten by Kelly Armstrong
  11. Broken by A.E. Rought
  12. Dance of Shadows by Yelena Black
  13. Dearly, Beloved by Lia Habel [October 9th]
  14. Die For Me by Amy Plum
  15. Enshadowed by Kelly Creagh
  16. The Goddess Test by Aimée Carter
  17. Hex Hall by Rachel Hawkins
  18. Hidden by Sophie Jordan
  19. Hourglass by Myra McEntire
  20. Immortal City by Scott Speer [September 25th]
  21. Wolfsbane by Andrea Cremer
  22. Inside Out by Maria V. Snyder
  23. Starcrossed by Josephine Angelini
  24. The Lying Game by Sara Shepard
  25. The Violet Fox by Clare C. Marshall
  26. Lies by Michael Grant
  27. Defiance by C.J. Redwine
  28. Unspoken by Sarah Rees Brennan
  29. Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi [October 1st]
  30. Undeadly by Michele Vail

It's still a huge challenge, especially if this reading slump takes any longer. But it would be awesome if I read all those books, before the end of this year!

Fall Into Reading Challenge

With the days getting shorter and the air getting all crispy again, fall is really here! It's time for reading a lot of books, tea or hot chocolate, on the couch, with or without a blanket. I can't wait! I was looking forward to joining my first reading challenge for a while now and Fall into Reading 2012 hosted by Callapidder Days looks like my kind of challenge!
Essentially, Fall Into Reading 2012 is a fun, low-pressure reading challenge open to anyone and everyone. It will take place September 22nd-December 21st (which, as you may have guessed, lines up with the fall of 2012).
To participate, here’s what you need to do:
  • Create a list of books you’d like to read or finish this fall. This is the only real requirement for participating in the challenge.
  • Feel free to set some additional reading goals (such as reading to your kids two hours per week, getting through your pile of magazines, etc.). However, this is not required; setting additional goals iscompletely optional.
  • Write a blog post that includes the list of books you want to read (and any additional goals you’ve set), and get ready to post it on your blog on September 22nd.
  • Visit Callapidder Days on September 22nd to sign up for the challenge. I’ll have an official launch post up that morning, complete with an area for you to submit a link to your personal Fall Into Reading post, where it will be added to the master list of participants.
  • Read! Work on your goals throughout Fall 2012.
  • Report your results. Write another blog post in December to let everyone know how you did. (I’ll post an official wrap-up to the challenge on December 22nd, where you’ll be able to share your results.)
  • Have fun! Visit other participants to see what they’re reading. Write reviews if you’re so inclined. But most of all, enjoy your fall reading!
The real challenge for me this fall is to lower my existing TBR pile. I keep buying books, so it grows all the time and I want to change that! It's almost sad seeing all those books just collecting dust and every time I see them I think I really want to read them, but I pick another book every time... And keep buying more.
So here's my challenge list, most books I already own and I've put some books on there I REALLY want to have: (in no particular order)

  1. Eve and Adam by Katherine Applegate & Michael Grant
  2. What's Left of Me by Kat Zhang
  3. Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout
  4. Easy by Tammara Webber
  5. Cinder by Marissa Meyer
  6. The Rise of Nine by Pittacus Lore
  7. Paranormalcy by Kiersten White
  8. Tempest by Julie Cross
  9. Spark by Amy Kathleen Ryan
  10. Abandon by Meg Cabot
  11. A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness
  12. Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl
  13. Bitten by Kelly Armstrong
  14. Broken by A.E. Rought
  15. Dance of Shadows by Yelena Black
  16. Dearly, Beloved by Lia Habel
  17. Die For Me by Amy Plum
  18. Enshadowed by Kelly Creagh
  19. The Goddess Test by Aimée Carter
  20. Hex Hall by Rachel Hawkins
  21. Hidden by Sophie Jordan
  22. Hourglass by Myra McEntire
  23. Immortal City by Scott Speer
  24. Wolfsbane by Andrea Cremer
  25. Inside Out by Maria V. Snyder
  26. Starcrossed by Josephine Angelini
  27. The Lying Game by Sara Shepard
  28. The Violet Fox by Clare C. Marshall
  29. Lies by Michael Grant
  30. Eve by Anna Carey
  31. Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins
  32. Unearthly by Cynthia Hand
  33. Unraveling by Elizabeth Norris
  34. Partials by Dan Wells
  35. Defiance by C.J. Redwine
  36. Breathe by Sarah Crossan

With 13 weeks of fall, I have to read approximately 3 books a week! I should be able to do that! But it wouldn't be fun if it's at least a bit challenging!

Happy Reading!
